“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.  Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.”  Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1213

Baptisms are typically scheduled on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 1 pm.  Parents are required to attend a pre-baptism class before the baby is baptized.  Godparents are welcome to attend as well.

There are several considerations and regulations to keep in mind when choosing godparents. Their role is to be a witness to living an active faith in Jesus Christ and to be able to pass this on to the child by word and example. In addition, they also have the responsibility to ensure that the child is raised and educated in our faith if, for some reason, the parents are unable to fulfill this promise. This does not necessarily mean that they are also the child’s legal guardian if something should happen. To perform their role, the godparents should be people who will be close to the child and actively involved in his/her life. In addition, to be a godparent, one must be 16 years of age or older and have received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. If married, one must be married according to church law. Godparents will need to obtain a “sponsor certificate”. This is a statement from their home parish that they are in fact practicing their faith and in good standing. The minimum church requirement is one Catholic godmother or godfather. However, it is customary to have both. It is not permitted to have two godmothers and no godfather or two godfathers and no godmother.
